Beverly Hills Diet

About

The Beverly Hills Diet was created by Judy Maezel in the early eighties and has now been revised into The New Beverly Hills Diet. It claims to be more of a scientific diet where you consume foods based on the enzymes they produce and the effects they have on your metabolism and fat burning.

The diet has had some mixed reviews some claiming it to be the worst, most unhealthy diet to follow whilst others saying those claims are born from ignorance and if you follow the diet correctly then it is a perfectly healthy diet that achieves results.

Much of the claims about the Beverly Hills Diet being bad for you are created from the initial 35 day phase where you food is quite restricted and you can only eat carbs with carbs, protein with protein and fruit on its own. The theory behind this, according to Mazel is that in order for your body to metabolise the food sufficiently and decrease fat stores you need to eat only one type of food group at a time.

How Does The Diet Work

The diet itself is very complicated as most days in the intial 35 day period vary as to what you can and cannot eat.

There are no limitations on how much you can eat as long as it is of the food specified for that particular day at the correct time.

One unique feature of the diet is the division of food groups into carbohyrdates, fruits, protein and fats. You can only eat any particular food group once in any given day so if you have your carbohydrate meal and then have your protein meal you cannot go back to eating carbohydrates again in that day, you will have to wait until the next day. The diet also advices you to eat fruit first, but only one type at a time and in between you have to wait one hour before having another different fruit and that of course means you cannot have your carbohydrate meal or protein meal before or you will not be allowed fruit again!

As you can probably gather following the diet will require you to pay careful consideration to the rules and I think this is where alot of people fall down when it comes to the Beverly Hills Diet. If you do not understand the rules than you could find yourself on a very low calorie diet and experience some side effects.

If you want a simple diet to follow then you should avoid this one, as you really need to pay attention to how it works. Also keep in mind that the intense phase of the diet is for 35 days and after that you should go into the maintance phase making a more balanced diet.

Summary

You will lose weight with this diet, and have the option of effectivelly eating as much as you like with each meal, but there are other diets out there such as the South Beach Diet where you can get the same results and still keep a much more healthy diet. If you are struggling to find a diet thatsuits you or works for you then maybe give this one a go, it might just work.
