Maple Syrup Diet

The Maple Syrup Diet or otherwise refered to as the Lemon Diet is an extreme low calorie diet. It has four versions of which to choose from starting with more of an intense detox and building up to a long term plan.

The diet has got mixed reveiws in recent times particulary after Beyonce lost about 1 1/2 in only two weeks leading up to her role in the film Dream Girls. Because of this rapid weight loss the diet has been branded as a crash diet that is not healthy or sustainbale and should be avoided at all costs. On the other hand alot of people think if it is good enough for beyonce then it is good enough for them!

Before deciding whether or not to go on the diet you first need to figure out what you want from the plan, namely do you want a short intense detox or do you want a long term weightloss plan?

If you are looking for a detox then you can get his in two forms. The full detox where you drink nothing, but the maple syrup drink for between 5 and 14 days (length of time varies accordnig to your experience with dieting. You should also consult a doctor prior to commencing the detox). The relaxed version is exactly the same exact you substitute the drink for a meal at breakfast and/or dinner. However you still have to certain unhealthy foods in the relaxed version.

If a more long term diet is what you are looking for then you can simply eat normally for 6 days and have 1 day per week where you only have the maple syrup drink.

With the amount of calories you are getting from the drink you are very close to fasting completely when you are on the diet, which will of course get you rapid weight loss which, as with all diets/detox of this type could develope an eating disorder.

How Does The Maple Syrup Diet Work

Before you start the diet you first need to know how to make the maple syrup drink itself.

The Drink

20 ml of natural tree syrup
20 ml of freshly squeezed lemon juice
a pinch of cayenne pepper or ginger
half a pint of hot or cold water

It is recommended that you drink between 6 and 9 glasses per day, but you could drink as much as you like.

You can choose from 4 different methods to carry out the diet:

The Full Detox - You just have the detox drink for a period of 10 days (5-7 if new to dieting).

The Relaxed Detox - You have a normal breakfast or dinner or both as well as the drink for the same period as the full detox.

The Once Per Week Version - You have one day per week where you only have the detox drink. For the rest of the week you eat a normal balanced diet

The Master Plan - Twice yearly multi day detox in conjunction with once a week diet

Summary

As with all diets of this variety it can be dangerous if carried out by the wrong person, but in essense the once a week diet plan could prove a very effective result for long term weight loss and is similar to that of fasting plan Eat Stop Eat. The detox seems very intense giving that you can do it for up to 14 days and by carrying it out you could develope serious health problems or develope an eating disorder. It should be very clear that the full and relaxed detox should only be done no more than twice per year if that, and only after consultation and approval from your doctor.
