Fight Colds With Vitamin C...
Vitamin C
If you find yourself contantly coming down with colds or flu and are constantly fighting to stay in health then the answer could be here in the form of Vitamin C.
Now most people know that vitamin C is good for you as it boosts your immune system, but what is surprising is the amount you should be taking to not maintain a healthy body and how much you should take to fight infection.
The recommended daily allowance for vitamin C in the US is 60mg and the UK only 30mg. According to Patrick Holford, author of "The Optimum Nutrition Bible" you should be taking 3000mg a day to maintain your immune system and to fight an infection this should be increased to 10000-15000mg per day. Taking high levels of vitamin C (more than 3000mg per day) could have a laxitive effect.
The theory behind this is that in order for a cold virus to take hold it must first get inside cells to reproduce more cold virsus which then infect other cells. Even with a dosage of 1000mg per day of vitamin C this process cannot be stopped. To stop it we need to achieve "tissue saturation" which will stop the cold virus dead in it's tracts. It is recommended to take 3000mgs every 4 hours to fight infection.
Vitamin C is widely available in many foods as well as a supplment. What-Diet.com top 5 sources of vitamin C for a healthy diet are listed below...
